The Zapata Hawks won their Class 3A bi-district play-off against Pearsall on Monday, 1-0.
Mike Rivera scored Ivan Elizondo in the fifth inning for the go-ahead run.
Luis Arturo Flores was the winning pitcher. He struck out 13 and allowed just two hits.
He also tallied two hits of his own.
Aside from Flores, leading the way for Zapata’s offense were Isaac Patterson and Jerry Gutierrez, each of whom had two hits apiece.
Joey Saenz added a hit.
The Hawks will start their best-of-three area playoffs against Robstown on Friday in Robstown at 7:30 p.m.
Game 2 will be in Zapata at 3 p.m., followed by Game 3, if necessary, 30 minutes afterward.
